Refreshing Summertime Lemonade Recipe

When the summer sun is blazing, there's nothing quite like a cold, refreshing glass of homemade lemonade to cool you down. This simple recipe brings the perfect balance of sweet and tart, using just a few ingredients you likely already have at home. Whether you're hosting a BBQ, having a picnic, or just lounging in the backyard, this lemonade will hit the spot every time.

Ingredients:

  • 6-8 fresh lemons (about 1 cup of lemon juice)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 5 cups of water (divided)
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: Lemon slices or mint leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Juice the Lemons: Start by rolling the lemons on the countertop to loosen up the juice. Then cut them in half and juice them into a bowl. You’ll need about 1 cup of fresh lemon juice for this recipe.

  2. Make the Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Once dissolved, remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool to room temperature.

  3. Combine Ingredients: In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lemon juice and simple syrup. Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water, stirring well. Taste your lemonade, and if you’d like it sweeter, feel free to add more sugar or water to adjust the flavor.

  4. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the lemonade for about 1-2 hours, or until it's chilled. Serve over ice cubes and garnish with lemon slices or a sprig of mint for that extra touch of summer flair.

Tips for the Perfect Lemonade:

  • Want to make it a little fancier? Add a few berries (like raspberries or strawberries) to the pitcher for a fruity twist.
  • If you like your lemonade extra tart, add a splash of lemon zest to enhance the flavor.
  • For a fizzy version, swap out some of the water for sparkling water.

Enjoy your homemade lemonade and let the summer vibes flow!
